Bob Books-
Step 4: of How to teach your child to read is the Bob Books. I chose these books because they are small in size and just have about 6 or so pages each with simple words. These are the only books I know of that are more simple than Dick and Jane books and Dr Suess books.
What we did:
Take out the Bob Books and have them try to read. The most you should have to do is tell them the names of people in the books. After they finish the
whole set of those books, you can move on to Dr Suess.
I give them the book (its really small) and tell them just read as much as you can. Remember they don't think they can do it, so they may need you to encourage them. Soon they are reading it!
Notes:
We did not sit right beside them while they read. For some reason it seemed to easy for them to not try to read. We sit back away from them till they say "Whats this word?" before we help. Just an interesting thing we learned.
We did not worry so much about perfection as we wanted them to just try. I can't help thinking in my childs mind he must think it a wonderous thing that a parent picks up a book and there are these symbols or letters and they can make sense of them into these great stories. I wonder if they feel like they could never do that.
We bought the first 3 sets of Bob Books. But to be truthful they only needed the 1st set of books.
